Goodbye Redwoods, hello Westport

From Trinity through Humboldt; the Redwoods stretch across an impressive span.  I finally exit, and find myself in a tiny little town by the name of Westport.  Cute, no?

Tourist traps: Liggett’s “World Famous Tree” and DUCKS!

When I travel, I occasionally will stop at roadside attractions/tourist traps; just because.  As I traveled through all of Northern California’s Redwoods, I saw multiple big/giant/humongous tress and 3 or 4 different “world famous drive thru” trees (as advertised). As … Continue reading

Californian Samoa

I spent a few days on the strip of land west of Arcata/Eureka, between the ocean and a bay; Samoa is one of the few small towns there.  All else is open land, ocean, industry and beautiful desolation.  The town … Continue reading

Wandering around Manila, CA & Humboldt Hobbit House

Manila is tiny decentralized town surrounded by a bay on one side and the ocean on another, located west of Hwy 101, between Arcata and Eureka, on Hwy 255.  I stayed in the area a few days, exploring the surrounding … Continue reading

The signs call it “The Big Tree”…. mind you we have yet to see “Giant Tree”, “Huge Tree” et al, further down the road….   It was, indeed…. a big tree.  Though no larger than others I have seen hiking … Continue reading
